![]() Chicago Bears QB Injury Blamed For Defeat By Packers For NFC Championship You’d think the biggest story out of the NFL, or at least the NFC, this weekend would be that the Packers made it to the Super Bowl. As it stands, however (and no pun intended), a knee injury on the losing team is taking much of the spotlight (not that any Green Bay fans or players really mind). It just shows that every team has a chance of winning and the Packers deserve their win. If you have ever played poker, you’re always in with a chance of winning, just look at Chris Moneymaker. Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is currently facing a firing squad of angry football fans and present and former NFL players for not trying hard enough for his team when he limped off the field near the start of the second half in the biggest game of his career.  Replacing Cutler was backup veteran Todd Collins, who ended up being taken out not far after, leaving the team with Caleb Hanie, third-string, to finish out the defeat. As it turned out, Hanie could be said to have given the best performance of the three, nearly leading the team, which entered the second half at 14-0, to a late-in-game comeback. Cutler, fresh off a heroic triumph over Seattle, his first play-off ever, in which he threw a pair each of rushing and passing touchdowns, this time threw only 80 yards out of 6 completions against the Packers.  After the unspecified injury (Cutler goes in for an MRI this week) he tried to pull out his best but after the first series following, it became clear, as Cutler says, “I couldn’t really plant and throw,” so they had to pull him.  The one group rallying behind Cutler as he receives all this criticism is his own team. Bears center Olin Kreutz said after watching Cutler try to recover from getting hit in the knee, he was surprised Cutler even tried coming out in the third quarter. Kreutz’s support was echoed by linebacker Brian Urlacher, a man of steel if ever there were one, who agreed the leg was too wobbly to play on. “I don’t question Jay’s toughness,” said Urlacher, vouching that Cutler wasn’t one to give up unless he knew it was for team’s best interest.  The score at game’s finish was Green Bay: 21,Chicago: 14.  AFC Champions this Sunday were the Pittsburgh Steelers, beating the Jets
